April 2019 GIVE Project – Tri-Cities Women Who Care

For our April Give Project we chose to highlight Tri-Cities Women Who Care. This amazing organization grew from a seed planted in Jackson, Michigan by Karen Dunigan in 2006. Karen formed an alliance of 117 women who joined forces to streamline fundraising for local agencies in need and has inspired other communities to form their own organizations.

After hearing of their great success, Cindy Anderson of Grand Haven and her steering committee, went to work in 2010 in put together the Tri-Cities Women Who Care organization.  To date, Tri-Cities Women Who care has over of 230 members that meet quarterly to raise awareness and funds for needs in our community.

Each member involved commits to donating a minimum of $400 a year, $100/quarter, to recipients that are chosen by those present at quarterly meetings. Members involved are able to bring to light any current need or organization that is looking for funding that they are passionate about. Three organizations are chosen out of a hat each meeting and members present on their behalf.  All members then vote on the organization that they would like the funds collected to be distributed to.  The organization that receives the most votes receives all the monies collected.

This year Tri-Cities Women Who Care will be celebrating a major milestone as they reach the $1,000,000 mark in donations given to local organizations.  If you would like to learn more about Tri-Cities Women Who Care, feel free to visit their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Tri-Cities-Women-Who-Care-185824388113313/
